About FBS Knowledge Resource Centre

The FBS Knowledge Resource Centre ( Library) is one of the largest, fully automated Electronic Library with 24 hour internet connectivity. The main objective of FBSKRC is to provide information support to Teaching, Research, Consulting and learning and truly Knowledge hub of FBS Kolkata. The Central Library has a commendable collection of books, Journals, Magazine and Newsletters. The Library subscribes both International and National Journals. All the users can search and ask for titles and subjects through Library Software based OPAC System. FBS Library serve people from all walks of life that include students and teachers , researchers  and consistently utilizing computer and other IT tools for better information organization and services.

 

Circulation and Membership

  MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION

1.

 New Student users have to fill up the membership form, attaching therewith two stamp size, Black & White or Colour photographs and submit the form to the Librarian / Library Staff.

2.

New Faculty users have to fill up the membership form, attaching therewith two stamp size Colour photographs and submit the form to the Librarian / Library Staff, through the HOD / Director Management Studies / Principal / Registrar of the Institution.

3.

Outside individuals are required to make a onetime deposit Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One thousand only) to be eligible to get one book as a regular lending for one entire semester. A service charge of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One hundred only) will be deducted for each month and the balance will be returned.

Casual User

Faculty, students and researchers from Government/ private funded institutions and organizations are allowed to refer the library against introduction letters from their respective institutions.

Library Hour

The Library is kept open on all weekdays, except on Institute / University holidays and Sundays. The opening hours are:

Monday to Friday   :  9: 30 AM to 7:30 PM

Further the opening hours during Trimester Examination  are:

Monday to Saturday   :  9: 30 AM to 5.30 PM

Issue / Return Timings

Return: On all working days from 9:45 am to 5:15 pm.  
Issue: On all working days from 12 O' clock to 5 pm.

Reading: On all working days from
9:45 am to 5 pm.

TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

1.

An outgoing member has to return the Library Card(s) to the Librarian and take the ‘NO DUES CERTIFICATES’

2.

If any member is found misusing / mutilating / stealing / cutting pages, he / she may be referred to the competent authority / disciplinary committee for suitable action.

3.

Membership may be suspended or terminated on the decision of the librarian and the disciplinary committeeCasual User

OVERDUE CHARGES / FINE / LOST

1.

Fine is not imposed on defaulters, however the member needs to take permission from the Principal / Registrar to renew their Library account.

2.

A charge of Rs 50/- is payable by members requiring reissue of new Library Card or Identity Card, for Damaged or Lost Card.

3.

In case of Loss of books, Replacement of Books at current price / original price or Rs: 300/- per book, whichever, is greater is payable by members.

RENEWALS AND CALL BACK

Maximum of two renewals is permitted on presentation of the book, provided the book has not already been requisitioned / demanded.

Books lent out are subject to call back, if required, even before the due date.

AWARDS FOR THE USERS

In each semester Library awards are given to the best student users who strictly adhere to all library rules.

COLLECTIONS AND RESOURSES

Currently the Central Library Collection consists of about 20,000 volumes of books and journals, subscription to more than 120 periodicals / magazines, over 6 online pay electronic periodicals available through internet, and more than 800 non book items (CD, DVD, Subject Floppy, Audio Cassettes etc).

BOOKS

The Books are arranged subject wise, i.e. Accounting, Finance, Ethics, marketing, Business Communication, Human Resource Management etc. on library racks. Each specified rack is arranged according to Dewey decimal classification. Each row of the racks is labeled with the range of class number.

INTER LIBRARY LOAN FACILITY

The Library is an Institutional Member of the following Libraries:

1.British Council Library
2.The American Library (USIS)

Faculty and the Student library members of FBS have free access to the services and facilities at these libraries. The Librarian may be contacted for more details.

BOOK BANK SERVICE

The Library has a Book Bank Scheme for the benefit of the students. Students are required to make a onetime deposit Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One thousand only) to be eligible to get two books for one entire semester. No regular issue / return is available under this scheme.  A service charge of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One hundred only) will be deducted for each semester and the balance will be returned to the student on completion of their Engineering Course.

REFERENCE SERVICE:

The Library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks, and Technical Data CD ROMs, Audio etc. The section renders short and long range reference service . All reference book marked by “REFERENCE” in the upper spine of the book.

SYLLABI, PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTION PAPERS,SAMPLE PAPERS AND SUBJECT BIBLIOGRAPHY

A separate corner is maintained for all latest information of University Syllabi, Previous Years Question Papers, Sample Questions and Subject Bibliography, etc. for member users of the Central Library.

PHOTOCOPY / REPROGRAPHY SERVICES

Photocopying of a complete book / periodical is not allowed. Users are individually responsible for complying with the Copyright Act. Photocopying service @ Rs. 0.50 per exposure is available through a private operator on the ground floor, under the staircase.

NEWSPAPER SERVICE

Central Library subscribes to International, Employment, Educational and 6 other national newspapers. Records for last two months are readily available at the library.

The entire International / National catalogue of leading publishers is available in the Central Library for further ready reference.

 Library Rules

GENERAL LIBRARY RULES

1.

Books borrowed are non transferable and should not be lent to anyone else as users are liable for damage or loss of books. The users have to check the book and ensure that it is intact, before borrowing. When the book is found damaged, the borrower has to replace the book or pay the current cost of the book as per rules.

2.

Users are expected to cooperate with the library staff in times of power failure.

3.

Gossiping or creating disturbances in any other form in the library is considered an act of gross indiscipline and is viewed seriously.

4.

No books, periodicals or any other library materials shall be removed from the library premises without being registered at the circulation counter.

5.

Users are required to maintain silence in the reading areas. Any kind of relaxing, chatting, group discussions and joint laboratory work is strictly prohibited. Library reading tables should only be utilized for self study through Reference, Library Books, Journals or Periodicals of the library.

6.

Users should not damaged Library property or in any way disfigure / mutilate any document.

7.

Any student found indulging in the following activities will be strictly dealt with by college management:
 

i)

Tearing pages from Library Books.

ii)

Mutilating pages of Library Books.

iii)

Stealing of Library Books.

8.

Users must immediately take away books issued from the Library.

9.

Books once issued cannot be returned before 2(Two) days.

10.

Mobile Phones, pagers and other electronic devices should be in the silent / switched off mode when visiting the library.

11.

Back issues of Journals / Magazines may be issued for 2 days as per demand.

12.

No printed materials e.g. photocopies, personal books, periodicals, etc., are permitted inside the Library.

13.

Library Cards must be made available whenever required for verification by the library staff.

14.

All the book (s) must be returned after the end of the semester for stock verification and for routine preservation and conservation.

15.

Reading books / Single copybooks will not to be issued by the Central Library.

16.

Reference books can only be read in the library and are non-issue books.

17.

Over night issues are available for Books and Non Book Materials (DVD, CD, Floppy, etc.) and Library user can borrow one book on Friday as overnight issue with deposit of their Identity / Library card and returned it on Monday. A Fine will be  imposed on defaulters @ Rs: 5/- (Five) per day of delay.

18.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in the library.

19.

For any further information a set of Library Rules and Regulations for users is available in the librarian desk.

20.

For any OPAC (Online Public Access catalogue) and Internet activity in the library, Do not close the OPAC window or shut down, turn off or restart the computer after the end of your search. OPAC and Internet User can not access other files, folders, OS, games, Software’s etc. except the Internet/ OPAC details. Don’t use your floppy, CD or Pen drive etc. Any kind of ‘Personal Use’ in the machine (PC) is strictly prohibited.

CIRCULATION RULES

01.

Books issued will not be accepted back on next two days.

02.

The borrowing facility can be withdrawn or restricted in case of misbehaviors or misuse of the library.

03.

Reading book/s should claim before 5 PM against your Identity card. a student can claim maximum 3 books for a day.

04.

All borrowed book should be issued after the 12 O’clock as first come first serve basis.

05.

Returned book should be shelved after the next day afternoon.

Rules for Interlibrary Loan

01.

One card of each library of British Council Library and American Resource Information Centre  will be reserved for Engineering faculties and one card for faculties of management of FBS

02.

One card of each institutions ( BCL & ARIC) will also be reserved for all the students of FBS

03.

Faculty and student may enjoy the services for 7 days. In case of lack of demands, no of days may be increased

04.

All users may borrow 4 ( Books / CD / Journal etc )documents simultaneously for 7 days on ‘first come first serve basis’ from the librarian of FBS Library.

05.

A separate ‘ Inter Library Loan’ service register is available for enjoy the service from librarian desk.

06.

All users have to return the documents loned from that library and after that the card deposited to the Librarian.

07.

Books and back issue of periodicals are loaned for a single week. All books, periodicals ,Cds etc that you borrow from the library must be returned to the library ( BCL& ARIC) within the stipulated date.

08.

In case of loss of membership card, please report the matter to the librarian  of FBS Knowledge Resource Centre Library as well as to the Library authorities of BCL/ AIRC. Charges will be taken as per the rules of the library of BCL and ARIC.

09.

The librarian is responsible for all the activities relating to the interlibrary loan services system of BCL and ARIC.

10.

The  Top Management of the FBS Kolkata reserves the right to withdraw services at a short notice for unforeseen reason.
